Ubisoft has released a new update 1.1 for its post-apocalyptic video game shooter, "The Division." While the update aims to make a number of gameplay improvements, it also accidently removes some content.

Now, the game publisher addressed the concern in a forum post on its official community site, while promising incoming fixes. The publisher reassured fans that they would soon restore the missing data.

According to Ubisoft's community developer, the bug issue was brought on by a malfunctioning server that could not synchronize the character data accurately and corrupted them instead. The game system could not seemingly read the corrupted data and as a result, it simply assumed that the character did not exist.

"Once this has been identified, we were able to restore the server to its normal functions, thus ensuring that the issue will no longer occur for the other players," it added.

With the problem appearing to have only affected individuals using the Xbox One version of the game title, the publisher reassured that the player's character has not been erased and that it will be restored through an update that will be available "shortly."

However, the community developer made it clear that in the process of restoring the missing characters, there is a chance that some progress in the game may be lost as well. Ubisoft has been reported to restore the latest uncorrupted saved data of the player's entire account.

"You will lose any progress made on this character or any other one of the same account between April 12 and the next maintenance," Ubisoft's community developer clarified.

According to reports, "The Division's" 1.1 update is the first major update to the game title since its worldwide launch on March 8. The update's size is around 4.9GB on PlayStation 4 and is a similar size for Xbox One and PC, Game Spot has learned.

"The Division's" gameplay happens in an open world mid-crisis Manhattan, where the game's titular agent has been given a mission to restore the city by investigating the nature of the outbreak and combating criminal activities. Upon its worldwide release, the game has been positively well-received by the critics and players around the world.
