Relegated club Levante UD (7-21-8, 29 points) continues its disappointing campaign in the 2015-2016 La Liga season as it meets top contenders Atletico Madrid (27-5-4, 85 points) on May 8th, Sunday at the Estadi Ciutat de València.
Levante was officially relegated to the Segunda Division next season after they succumbed to a 1-3 loss to Malaga CF at the La Rosaleda Stadium on Monday, as reported by SkySports.
Malaga's Croatian forward Duje Cop had a brace in the contest as he opened the scoring at the 30th minute before Levante midfielder Jose Luis Morales leveled the count three minutes before the halftime break.
Cop then scored his second goal one minute before the full time whistle blew while his teammate, Uruguayan midfielder Chory Castro, added another one during stoppage time to complete the three-goal haul of the hosts.
With the result, Les Granotes six-season campaign in the Spanish top flight is done as they are now six points behind Rayo Vallecano, Sporting Gijon, and Getafe, who are all tied on points in the overall standings, with only two games left in this term.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid is still in the hunt for the La Liga title as they are tied on points with FC Barcelona at the top of the league table with two matchdays remaining.
Barça is ahead of Atleti because of their superior head-to-head won matches and overall goal difference which is why the latter must surge ahead on points if they want to retain the title they won two years ago.
In their most recent match, Los Colchoneros nipped lowly team Rayo Vallecano, 1-0, at the Vicente Calderón Stadium last Saturday, via BBC Sport.
French striker Antoine Griezmann, one of the season's best goalscorers, provided the winning goal for Diego Simeone's side at the 55th minute as both teams had a hard time scoring against each other's stingy defenses.
Atleti is now on a six-game winning streak as they stay at par with the defending champions.
The predicted result is a 3-0 rout for Atletico Madrid.
