South Korean actor Choi Sung Won, who starred in tvN's "Reply 1998," has been forced to drop out of an upcoming TV project due to a health issue. The 31-year-old star was set to star in the upcoming JTBC drama series, "Mirror of the Witch."
On May 9, the drama's production companies, Apollo Pictures and Drama House, officially announced that the actor will be leaving the drama to undergo treatment. Choi was diagnosed with acute leukemia on May 4, Wednesday, after visiting a doctor for a minor bruise he got during filming, The Korea Times reported.
"[Choi Sung Won]'s health is more important than anything else," the production companies said in a statement bntained by Soompi. "And so, after a discussion with the producers, it was decided that he will leave the drama so that he can focus on his treatment."
The statement also mentioned that Choi's leukemia was caught in the early stages, stressing that recuperation through treatment is completely possible. It has been noted that the sooner treatment begins, the better.
The actor has been cast to play the supporting character named Dong Rae, who is a childhood friend of the male lead character. Choi's character was originally scripted to appear all through the drama series, but will now only show up in the early portions due to the unexpected circumstances.
The inevitable authentic dream dramatization is enlivened by the book, Donguie Bogam. It follows the story of an unfortunate princess named Seo Ri, played by Kim Sae Ron, who is separated from her mother Queen Sim and twin brother at birth.
Princess Seo Ri turns into a witch under the influence of a shaman's powerful curse until she meets a young man named Heo Joon, played by actor Yoon Si Yoon, a royal physician who wrote the book called the Mirror of Eastern Medicine (Donguibogam). It is directed by Jo Hyun-Tak with a screenplay penned by Yang Hyuk Moon.
