After dominating the box office for several weeks since its debut, "American Sniper" drops down to number three, giving way to two debuting films "SpongeBob" and "Jupiter Ascending."
Having earned another $6.2 million, Clint Eastwood's Oscar-nominated film "American Sniper" starring Bradley Cooper has earned a total of $264 million overall and is expected to hit $300 million, according to Hit Fix.
Currently at number one is the Paramount Pictures release "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water," which is a sequel to the 2004 Nickelodeon film "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie."
On its debut on Feb. 6, "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" earned $15 million and is expected to earn $45-50 million over the weekend. The original 2004 film earned $32 million during its opening and $85 million overall, according to Cartoon Brew.
With a reported budget of $74 million, "The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" was directed by Paul Tibbitt. It stars Antonio Banderas, Eric Bauza, Tim Conway, Eddie Deezen, Rob Paulsen, Kevin Michael Richardson, April Stewart, Cree Summer, Billy West and Nolan North, among others.
Meanwhile, "Jupiter Ascending" was expected to earn $16-18 million during its opening but it earned only $6.4 million.
"#JupiterAscending flops badly FRI w/ just $6.4M heading to dismal $16M wknd. Worse than SpeedRacer & AfterEarth," Box Office Guru Gitesh Pandya tweeted about the sci-fi film starring Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.
