Apple could already be developing the iPhone 8 which will be coming in 2017 as reports claim that it will be featuring a glass design for one of its variants.
The Cupertino-based tech giant has not yet officially unveiled the iPhone 7 yet but there are already speculations and leaks regarding the iPhone 8. One major supplier for Apple has now confirmed that they were already tasked to manufacture one of the variants which will have a unique glass design.
Most smartphones today have metal or aluminum bodies which makes them all look pretty much the same. Allen Horng, the CEO of Apple supplier Catcher Technology, said that the company wanted to launch a new phone that would look and feel different compared to the other smartphones available in the market.
Apple could then release one glass design model of the iPhone 8 and one aluminum-bodied model, Valuewalk reported. The glass model would still feature a metal frame for the edges to support and protect the phone.
Another interesting feature that the new phone would have is its display screen. For several years now, Apple has only used IPS display panels for their phones.
Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities, claims that Apple will finally be using AMOLED displays for their iPhone 8 models in 2017. The company had even signed a deal with competitor Samsung to supply their need for about 100 million AMOLED screens.
The next iPhone could also have a curved display plus a curved glass body for one model, 9 to 5 Mac has learned. This would put the new phone similar to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Some fans are disappointed to learn that Apple would be making their iPhone 8 similar to what Samsung already offers. Others are glad, however, that they are taking another step forward and not just releasing the same kind of phone every year or so.
Apple would need to launch the iPhone 7 first before they can even announce the glass design model of the iPhone 8. Fans will also have to wait until 2017 to see what the new iPhone has to offer.
