With "Supergirl" making her way to The CW for her second outing, network president Mark Pedowitz has cooked up a massive superhero crossover, including The Flash, Supergirl, Green Arrow and the Legends of Tomorrow team.
At The CW's Upfront presentation event, Pedowitz revealed his plans to bring together all the DC Comics superheroes and anti-heroes in the "biggest" crossover event in TV. The CW successfully executed crossovers in the past, starting with Barry Allen's introduction as The Flash (played by Grant Gustin) in "Arrow" Season 2.
In the first season of "The Flash," Oliver Queen (played by Stephen Amell) also made an appearance together with John Diggle (played David Ramsey). Black Canary, Heatwave and Captain Cold also made appearances in "Arrow" and "The Flash" before joining the squad in "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
"Just imagine what our superhero crossover episode is going to look like come December," Entertainment Weekly quoted Pedowitz as saying.
The addition of "Supergirl" to The CW's star-powered lineup brings exciting news to fans and multiple possibilities for DC Comics' Television Universe.
Pedowitz claimed that the Melissa Benoist-starrer should have been with The CW in the first place instead of its sister network CBS. As to where they are planning to take the show, he is in discussions with Greg Berlanti, and is confident that he will be able to helm something that will satisfy the fans' needs.
"As for the tone or tonality of the series, they did have a pretty successful series. The fact it's now moved to The CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don't think it will have a big impact on the tone," Pedowitz said.
According to the Los Angeles Times, CW has scheduled "Supergirl" Season 2 for a Monday 8 p.m. timeslot, bumping critical darling "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" to Fridays. The network hopes that "Supergirl" Season 2 will help it in terms of providing a much-needed ratings boost.
"Supergirl" Season 2 will move its filming location to Vancouver, Canada, where the other CW shows are also filming. The show's production previously took place in Los Angeles, California.
"Supergirl" Season 2 will air on The CW this fall.
