World Cup-winning midfielder Mario Götze chose to stay with Bayern Munich this summer and former boss Jürgen Klopp of Liverpool was disappointed about his decision, recent reports say.
The 23-year-old midfielder recently claimed that he wants to remain with the Bundesliga champions for the foreseeable future "despite speculation linking him with an exit this summer", Caught Offside indicated.
Speculations abound that the Memmingen, Germany native's decision to remain at the Allianz Arena was "significantly" influenced by the arrival of former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti as the new head coach of the Bavarians next season.
Ancelotti will take over from current Der FCB manager Pep Guardiola as the latter is set to move to England and handle Premier League giants Manchester City.
The development said to have delivered a huge "transfer setback" to Klopp, who had been eyeing to bring his former player to England in the offseason.
"I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape during my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti," Götze told local news outlet Bild.
The Germany international had been struggling in three seasons under Guardiola, especially in the recently concluded term where he only scored three goals in 14 games in the German top flight competitions. He only had six goals in 21 appearances in all competitions for Bayern this season as he felt underutilized by the Spanish coach.
With Guardiola's departure and the arrival of Ancelotti, Götze is said to be hoping to have a brand new start with the Bavarians next season.
Meanwhile, ESPN reported that Götze's father Jürgen, now also his new agent, confirmed that he will return to play for Die Bayern next season.
"I don't know anything about an alleged imminent transfer to Liverpool," the elder Götze said. "Mario is my son, we talk to each other. I would know about it."
The German midfielder's contract with the Bavarians will expire in 2017 and it was rumored that until then he will contemplate of possibly moving to another club.
The Götzes terminated their deal with Sports Total, the agency that also manages the careers of German footballers Toni Kroos, Marco Reus, and Benedikt Howedes, on Monday.
