Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans are close and in good terms despite speculations that they are in feud. The former denied reports he is "at war" with the latter after a stunt in London in March. The new "Top Gear" co-hosts are actually as close as Joey and Chandler of "Friends."
The show about cars, "Top Gear," is back and will premiere on May 29 with a lot to talk about. LeBlanc and Evans are the show's main hosts and will be joined by motoring men and women throughout the series. Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan, German racing driver Sabine Schmitz, established motoring journalist Chris Harris, car reviewer Rory Reid and The Stig, who is described by some as a double agent of Jeremy Clarkson, the former presenter of the show, are set to guest.
Known as Joey Tribbiani on the classic sitcom "Friends," LeBlanc is the first American presenter of the BBC Two car show. He told the Radio Times, "All this stuff that Chris and I are at war with each other is a big load of bullsh*t. We've never had a rift."
The American actor reiterated he and Evans are true car fans. Speaking about him and his co-host, he said, "We're hanging out, having a laugh, doing our best. He is an extremely smart guy. I'd beat him in a race, though-and you can tell him I said that."
LeBlanc admitted seeing constantly on headlines has been an eye-opener to him who did not expect the British press could be ruthless. He also told the UK entertainment site he plans to bring former co-stars David Schwimmer and Courteney Cox to appear on the revamped motoring program on BBC 2. He revealed Schwimmer is into cars while Courteney is a car nut.
Despite tabloid stories that the new series has a troubled production, there was a lot of goodwill on the set of revamped car show with both Evans and LeBlanc appearing to have a humorous and a healthy competition, The Guardian reported. The pair had an instant competitive rapport, despite having no years of camaraderie behind them.
"Top Gear" returns on BBC Two on May 29, 8 p.m. in the United Kingdom and a day after on BBC America in the United States.
