The end of episode 5 seemed a bit of depressing moment for "Game of Thrones" fans as Hodor died from defending Bran and Meera from the White Walkers. The scene continued with Meera dragging Bran away from the attack of the monsters beyond the wall, but it seemed like a still unknown person arrives for help. Who could this person be? Many are speculating Benjen Stark is the man riding the horse who will rescue Bran and Meera in the succeeding events.
It can be recalled from the past seasons that Ned Stark's younger brother, Benjen, last appeared when he was heading North of the Wall. He never returned afterwards. Only his horse was able to reach Castle Black with no sighting of him at all. In its report, Independent speculated that he is still alive and yet to make an appearance in the current season. But many are guessing this could not be the case as they are questioning how Benjen was able to survive past the wall all those years and only appears by the time Bran is about to be crushed by the White Walkers.
The same report stated there are many book theorists who believe Benjen Stark becomes Coldhands. As described by the novel, Coldhands is a ghostly character riding a great elk and dressed like a Night's Watch Ranger. In the book series, there was a particular scene where Coldhands saved Sam, Gilly and little Sam from the attack of a group of wights, MTV noted.
Many oppose this could be Benjen as the Children of the Forest claimed Coldhands already died a long time ago. But basing on how the series goes right now, it may be possible that producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will stray away from the original text. There was already an instance where the showrunners skipped a story of an undead character like Lady Stone Heart, so it would not be a surprise if they just put Benjen Stark back into the show.
