Keira Knightley has starred in several hit movies, including "The Pirates of the Carribean," and has also been nominated for The Academy Awards twice. However, her "Begin Again" director, John Carney, does not look forward to work with her again in the future.
The movie also starred "Thor: Ragnarok" actor Mark Ruffalo and the American singer-songwriter Adam Levine. Carney became "disenchanted" after working with Knightley on 2013 musical film, the director himself said during an interview with The Independent.
"I think the real problem was that Keira wasn't a singer and wasn't a guitar player and it's very hard to make music seem real if it's not with musicians," Carney told the UK-based publication. "And I think the audience struggled a little bit with that in 'Begin Again'."
The "Sing Street" director further claimed that even though he tried his best to make things work out, Knightley just could not fit in as a guitar-playing singer-songwriter. That is the reason why he really wanted to work out with people who could actually play the instruments and sing songs just like that.
Following his experience working with Knightley on "Begin Again," the director was relieved to return back to Ireland to work on his next project, "Sing Street." Carney said that he was mentally prepared to return back to Ireland to make films that nobody cared about and neither wondered about who actually was being starred in it.
As for his recent movie, the director told the publication, "It's fantastic. I'm very surprised; it's a small personal movie with no Keira Knightleys in it. It's really rewarding."
Meanwhile, neither Knightley's representative or the actress herself has responded to the claims made by Carney.
"Sing Street" debuted in mid-April and has raked in just $2.6 million so far, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Begin Again" had a high-profile limited release in June 2014. The musical did not perform well in the US. However, it did $63.5 million worldwide, including $47.3 million overseas and $16.2 million in the US.
