Johnny Depp's "Pirates Of The Caribbean" co-star Michael Enright has explained why he is fighting against ISIS in Syria alongside Kurdish forces. The British actor he was pushed to fight the militants by American journalist James Foley's execution in 2014.
In an interview with Al Arabiya News Channel in the Syrian battlefield, Enright said it was painful for him to watch Foley's execution, and what made it worse for him was that not only was Foley innocent but also "the coward that did it was an Englishman."
"The reason I came out here is because originally I saw James Foley, an American citizen, journalist and innocent man, getting his head cut off," Enright explained. "I had never seen anything like that and I felt a bunch of raw emotions."
Enright was referring to British ISIS executioner Mohammed Emwazi, who was known as Jihadi John for several months before British intelligence identified him. The British actor said he decided he wanted to do something about it.
In recent months, Enright had been wearing Kurdish military uniform while on Syrian frontlines.
It has been a year since ISIS declared itself a caliphate in Syria and Iraq and carried out its campaign to take hold of swathes of the two countries. While leading a brutal crackdown on Syrian and Iraqi minorities, ISIS carried out high profile executions of Western journalists and a Jordanian pilot fighting in the anti-ISIS coalition.
In 2006, Enright starred in "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" with Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom, who is reportedly dating "Dancing With The Stars" season 20 champion Rumer Willis' mother Demi Moore, according to Classicalite.
