A recent job listing gives some information about Naughty Dog's next installment in "The Last of Us" franchise. The company's lead game designer and resident "poiometagrobologist," Emilia Schatz, recently posted on twitter, asking for anyone interested in working for Naughty Dog as a level designer.
In post via Naughty Dog's official website, Schatz said, "Looking for level designers, especially if you have art and modeling experience. Want to help make ND's next game?"
Although job listings, openings, and announcement on twitter are common, the details in Naughty Dog website's post had some interesting features. With regard to the responsibilities, the game developer is soliciting for someone who can create "fun and emotionally engaging third-person action gameplay and levels, from high concept planning to object placement and scripting."
When it comes to the requirements and skills, the posting stated that the company wants a person with experience in designing and scripting single-player levels for console games. The applicant should also have knowledge of and experience in playing third-person action games.
The details in the job listing give a clear picture of the kind of project the company might be working. In fact, it spurred speculations that Naughty Dog is soliciting for level designers to work on "The Last of Us 2."
Naughty Dog is reputable for different action-adventure games majorly for console. Recently, there has been an unusual picture of what the studio might be working on.
Now that "Uncharted" series is officially over with the release of "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" earlier this month, it is unlikely that Naughty Dog will be creating new entries in "Jak and Daxter" and "Crash Bandicoot" series after this long. Similarly, it is unlikely that the company will filed a new intellectual property (IP), although neither that nor the previous examples are totally off the table.
However, it is interesting that the job listing had the phrase "emotionally engaging," particularly since the emotional aspects of the first "The Last of Us" was among the most lauded features. It is rational to assume that the company is currently working on the next installment in "The Last of Us" franchise.
Previously, Nolan North confirmed the development of "The Last of Us 2" via Gamerant. North is a regular collaborator of Naughty Dog and reputable for voicing Nathan Drake in the "Uncharted" series.
