Actor Song Joong Ki will once again donate a portion of his "2016 Asian Tour Fan Meeting" proceeds to a charity in China. On June 1, Wednesday, Blossom Entertainment revealed the actor's charitable plan through a press statement released in a various newsstand in South Korea.
According to the press statement obtained by All K-pop, the 30-year-old Hallyu star plans to make the donation to a new foundation, who intended to help the area affected by the earthquake in Wenchuan, West Sichuan, China. The 2008 Sichuan earthquake has been considered as the deadliest quake to hit the country since the 1976 Tangshan seismic tremor.
Measured at 8.0 magnitude and 7.9-moment magnitude scale (MMS), the earthquake killed 69,197 individuals with 18,222 listed as missing. To date, the earthquake left around 4.8 million vagrants.
"Song Joong Ki will be donating a portion of his profits from the '2016 Asia Tour Fan Meeting'," the press statement reads.
However, Blossom Entertainment refused to reveal the amount of money to be donated nor the name of the charity. Nonetheless, it should be noted that this is not the first time for Song to engage in charitable acts.
Recently, he had donated his entire "Hurry Up, Brother" appearance fee to an unnamed charity. The actor partook as a special guest on the May 13th episode of the Chinese version of "Running Man."
In early March, it was revealed that Song has been secretly making donations to the Korean Childhood Leukemia Foundation (KCLF), even before he catapulted his name in the entertainment industry. Through the funds he has donated anonymously since 2011, it was found out that more than 10 children with cancer have already received medications.
At the point when the news of his benevolence reached the public eyes, Song received media's spotlight as one of the social contribution donors. Numerous reports noted that the actor previously donated 100 million won ($83,000) to UNICEF. It was intended to help the casualties of Nepal earthquake, Destination K-pop reported.
Further, Song donated all the rice wreath gathered in his past screening events and his entire commission earned from narrating MBC's "Tears of the Antarctic." In other news, Song, who began his acting career in 2008's "A Frozen Flower," will make his big screen appearance in the 2017 historical period film called "Battleship Island." He will be acting along with award-winning actors Hwang Jung Min and So Ji Sub.
