The much-rumored Microsoft Surface Phone is said to likely launch in spring 2017. Besides the Microsoft Surface Phone, reports have it that Microsoft will release its Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 at the same time.
There is a leaked still of the Microsoft Surface Phone, which reveals more details about the upcoming phone. The image that was posted on the popular Chinese website Baidu shows that the upcoming Surface Phone will sport a USB Type-C port and a 3.2mm headphone jack.
Baidu teased that the Surface Phone will ship with a 20-megapixel Carl Zeiss lens. This same lens was used for Lumia 950.
Windows CEO Terry Myerson pointed out via The Verge that the company is fully committed to that 4-inch screen. While there will be a time for it to be Windows' focus, currently the phone is part of the family although it is not the core of where Microsoft hopes to draw developer attention over the next year. The chief added that there is no lack of recognition to realize how significant that form factor is, but for Microsoft with Windows and for its platform it is the wrong place for the company to head.
The Surface Phone will differ from Windows phones, which are in the market so far. The price for the upcoming smartphone will range between $700 and $1200. The phone will have a 3000mAh battery.
Speaking to TechBuzz, Microsoft's CMO Chris Capossela said, "We need more breakthrough experiences, breakthrough hardware to get people to move to Windows mobile OS. It's gotta be a phone that's sort of like, 'Wow'."
The Microsoft Surface Phone will come in three variants. There will be a basic version with 4 GB of RAM along with 64 GB of storage space, the advanced model that features 6 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage capacity, and the Pro version that comes with 8 GB of RAM with 512 GB of storage capacity.
