"Supergirl" is officially flying to The CW for Season 2, and it opens up a lot of opportunities for the character to interact with her fellow DC Comics superheroes. However, aside from the much talked-about crossovers, there is another thing that is highly buzzed about when it comes to "Supergirl" Season 2 - how's her love life going to be?
For the most part, there are rumors going around that Kara Danvers may develop an interesting romantic connection with Barry Allen in "Supergirl" Season 2. The two first met when The Flash traveled to Kara's world in "Supergirl" Season 1.
Actor Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash in the titular series, believes that his character and Melissa Benoist's Kara would make a "great couple."
"We had a really fun dynamic and I bet next year, there's probably more crossovers than we've ever had," Gustin said, as quoted by ComicBook.com. However, Benoist doesn't feel the same way about the characters, saying they're "too similar" with each other.
"I don't know that they'd ever get together; I think they're too similar," Benoist said. "I think they'd like pig out on... I think they're pals, pigging out on ice cream and donuts."
Another reason why a potential Supergirl-The Flash love story may not work in "Supergirl" Season 2 is the fact that both characters are also romantically involved with other people. For one, Kara just shared a romantic kiss with James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks) in "Supergirl" Season 1 finale. It would be awkward to put Barry between James and Kara especially after what happened to them.
Speaking to TV Line, Benoist also said that Supergirl is "naïve and innocent" when it comes to love. When asked about how things would go for James and Kara's relationship in the sophomore season of the show, Benoist teased that "it will be funny and awkward and great."
As for Barry, he just got together with his best friend Iris (Candice Patton), a.k.a his biggest crush for as long as he can remember.
Nevertheless, Gustin and Benoist will get some screen time together in the upcoming episodes of their shows. The CW president Mark Pedowitz has confirmed that a major crossover event will include The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow and the "League of Legends" team.
"The Flash" Season 3 and "Supergirl" Season 2 will return on air this fall.
