Rumors about the inevitable release of "Injustice: Gods Among Us 2" were corroborated by a poster showing Batman and the Flash about to engage in combat. The tagline of the poster was "Every battle defines you," which hints a storyline of an alternate universe where superheroes are divided.
According to GameSpot, the leaked poster was from the chain retailer GameStop. A letter addressed to the store managers of the chain stated that the poster is a promotional bonus material for preorders for "Injustice 2."
The poster has pre-empted the official announcement of the game's sequel release, and many are speculating on the details of the sequel, but it is likely to follow the storyline premise of the first game. As what Polygon noted, in the 2013 original installment of "Injustice" videogame, the superheroes of the DC characters fight each other based on various alternate DC universe settings.
Several days before the poster was leaked to public scrutiny, there are some sources claiming that "Injustice 2" was being developed for the three major game consoles - PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. In addition, some reports were claiming that the game sequel will be officially announced soon, and will hit the market shelves in March 2017.
The rumors gained more credibility after the promotional poster of "Injustice 2" was leaked to the public; however, exact details will still be subject to speculations while the fans wait for the official announcement.
Meanwhile, a related development that was recently reported online was the change of Twitter avatar of NetherRealm creative director Edward John "Ed" Boon. He changed it to the Roman numeral for two, "II" and the background image into a drumroll.
Boon is obviously teasing fans about the game sequel before any official statement is made, as he has the reputation of doing such thing in previous instances, wherein official announcements were preceded by hints from him.
The original "Injustice: Gods Among Us" was released in April 2013 and it was designed for Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and PC. A version for PS4 and Xbox was later released as an Ultimate Edition that featured improved visuals and downloadable content.
In "Injustice 2," Superman is a world dictator in an alternate DC universe and the other superheroes must take side.
