South Korean actor Song Joong-Ki, 30, is currently on an extreme diet in an effort to lose weight for his new movie titled "Battleship Island." The Hallyu star recently revealed that he is carrying out a meal plan, as he needs to get in even better shape than he is already in. It only implies extra training sessions to beef up Song's sculpted muscles.
Song is starring in the new Ryoo Seung-Wan film, "Battleship Island," which will be shot on location in Nami, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province starting June 17, Friday. Song plays a member of the Korean Independence group, Park Moo Young, who sneaks onto the island to rescue a colleague. For the role, he had to undergo a stunning transformation.
"These days I'm going on a diet to make (my body shape) fit the character," Song was quoted as saying in a report by Hong Kong newspaper Sing Tao Daily, according to Kpop Herald.
Speaking this weekend at a press conference event in Hong Kong, Song said that he needed to look thin to customize his character from more than 10 years ago, stressing that the film is inspired by a true event that insert background of Korean history, Morning News USA has learned.
Further, Song is expected to shave his hair off, just as he said amid his fan meeting event in Seoul, South Korea on April 17. The actor previously admitted that his new role in the upcoming film is a dream come true for him, as he really wanted to do a period piece set in the Japanese occupation era.
The forthcoming period film, which also stars actors So Ji Sub and Hwang Jung Min, will be on location for filming starting June 17, Friday. With a time span of 6-7 months, the filming will take place on a huge 6,600-square-meter set, which will recreate Japan's Gunkanjima aka Hashima Island, on the former United States' armed force base in Chuncheon.
On June 12, Sunday, an official from CJ E&M hinted that the "Battleship Island" movie will be released on the same date both in South Korea and mainland China in early 2017. Not long after the news came to light, a photo with a short phrase to introduce the film's main characters was then broadly circulated on the web.
