Nintendo has not revealed more specific details about their upcoming Nintendo NX console but they said they will be fighting the PlayStation NEO and the Xbox Scorpio with better content, not specs.
While PC gamers are rejoicing in their new cheaper but more powerful choices in NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, console gamers are waiting for the new line of devices from the large companies. People are anticipating the Nintendo NX, the PlayStation NEO and the Xbox Scorpio.
It has been a tradition that newer consoles carry more powerful specs under their hood. They push the boundaries even further every several years or so as they try to play catch up with the PC gaming industry, which seems to be upgrading at a much faster rate.
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé said in an interview with Bloomberg that the console battle for them is not about the specs but rather about the content, IGN has learned. They do not seem to care about the teraflops they will dish out.
One mistake from the Japanese video game company is that more people care about the horsepower of a system. For instance, Microsoft has already confirmed that the Xbox Scorpio can pump out six teraflops which is about the same number as the PlayStation NEO.
The Nintendo NX will also be staying away from VR or AR for now, Forbes reported. It could mean that the new console lacks the power required to run VR titles.
With Nintendo's statement's about not caring what the specs are and no love for VR, most people could assume that the new console will most likely be similar to their Wii U. They have been at the bottom of the console wars several years back simply because they do not offer more graphics power than their competitors.
VR can wait and most people agree with that. The VR headsets are still ridiculously expensive at this point despite the new GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and the $200 AMD Radeon RX 480 cards that can be used to build VR rigs.
Nintendo is expected to reveal more specific details regarding the Nintendo NX specs and features later this year. The upcoming console that would take on the PlayStation NEO and the Xbox Scorpio is expected to be released in 2017.
