Cody Rhodes was released from his WWE contract on May 22 after he requested it, citing his frustrations with the creative team and position in the company. However, the latest rumors suggest that the WWE recently offered a new contract to Rhodes but it's only a Legends deal.
The 30-year-old had been in the WWE for about ten years and he had a ton of potential. He has the look and charisma to become a world champion. But the WWE never seemed to know what to do with him which led to a lot of frustrations.
According to PWMania, the WWE and Rhodes are in discussions of a new deal that will allow them to work together in some capacity. Even though he left on bad terms, the WWE reportedly wants him to sign a Legends deal that gives the company permission to sell merchandise with his likeness.
There is no confirmation if the two sides have agreed on the deal but do not expect Rhodes to make any appearances on WWE television. He has a very busy schedule in the independent circuit and he will be facing many top stars not in the WWE.
The former WWE superstar is set to face Johnny Gargano on August 19 at Evolve 66 in Joppa, Maryland. He is also scheduled to face off against Mike Bennett at the Wrestling Under the Stars event on August 26 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.
However, Rhodes' biggest matches will be on August 27 and 28 as he faces two of the greatest wrestlers in history. He is going up against Kurt Angle first in Wappingers Falls, New York while he will be facing Jushin Thunder Liger at a Northeast Wrestling event in Bethany, Connecticut.
The son of late Dusty Rhodes will also wrestle for promotions such as Pro Wrestling Guerilla, WrestlePro, Xtreme Wrestling Alliance and Preston City Wrestling in England. According to Wrestling Inc, the former WWE superstar also teased getting into acting and he would fit perfectly in The CW's "Arrow" with Stephen Amell.
Cody started his career in 2006 at Ohio Valley Wrestling before making his WWE debut in 2007 facing Randy Orton. He went on to become part of The Legacy with Orton and Ted DiBiase. He then became "Dashing" Cody Rhodes in 2011 and Stardust in 2014.
In his ten years with the WWE, Cody is a three-time Intercontinental champion and a six-time WWE tag team champion. Check out the video below for his WWE debut against Orton in 2007.
