Capcom has explained why they have merged "Resident Evil 7" and "Biohazard" titles into one. The game company also explained that the demo is not just a small part of the game.
Producer Masachika Kawata said in an interview on the official website of Capcom-Unity that ever since the popular horror and action video game's release of its first game, it was called "Biohazard" in Japan, and "Resident Evil" in the West. The latest sequel of the game has now combined the two versions of the title because they wanted to make a big, impactful feeling of the series in one place, and to combine their future, which it is heading towards.
Kawata also explained that they wanted to start off with the first two elements of the series, which are horror and exploration, and that is the reason why they wanted it in the demo. When the full version of the game is released, the other key elements of the series like puzzle-solving, resource management, and combat against enemies will be present. Kawata added that they want to focus more on the message of horror coming back in this demo.
Kawata and director Koshi Nakanishi explained why they had to make the recent game into a first-person perspective version. They wanted the audience to experience horror and experience it in the most direct method, which was by seeing what was happening in front of their eyes. Nakanishi said that they were happy with the way the game feels in this version.
Nakanishi also said that their new RE engine was built from the ground up so that they will know where to find their way around it, compared to using a third-party engine, which they need to learn first how to use it. To make a game with the highest quality possible, they decided to make their own engine so that it will be dedicated to making this recent game. He is proud to say that it is a sign of the team's dedication as artists.
According to Attack of the Fanboy, the upcoming video game will be launched for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Interested buyers will be expecting this game to appear on gaming shop shelves on January 24, 2017.
