"Overwatch's" Competitive Play mode has launched on Windows PC recently with the game's latest update. Blizzard Entertainment also announced that the debut season of the mode will be abbreviated to two months.
PC players will get the benefit of the tier-based mode first, since it has launched recently. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will have to wait for it to be launched on their platforms at a later date. According to the game's community manager Lylirra's post on the official forums of Battle.net, this method is not their ideal way of delivering new content, which is why they will continue to improve their patching processes in the next few months.
According to Eurogamer, the debut season of the new mode will only be two months instead of the usual three months. The game company explained in a statement that the new mode will be launching on mid-season, since the game's Summer 2016 Season started out on June 1. On Aug. 18, the inaugural season of the feature will end across all platforms, and the Autumn season will then begin in a few weeks.
The community manager pointed out that their client will always allow them to be more open to the PC platform. They are also hoping that they will get to a point where they can release big updates on the PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 in one day.
In other news, Game director Jeff Kaplan also gave details on the official forums of Battle.net that they have been reading all of the feedback from the testers for the recent update, and thanked them for their efforts. The testers liked that they saw their Skill Rating, the strong leaver penalty, the changes on the Assault map, and how the premade groups are called out in the UI. They hated the new coin flip and Sudden Death feature because it was clear that there was one team that had a big advantage on different maps.
Since the majority of the testers did not like the two features of Competitive Play, they removed the features completely. They are also looking at different, longer-term solutions to remedy this issue, and make the new mode a great experience.
