Minecraft has been around for quite some time now but it is still easily one of the most played games in history and now "Minecraft: The Movie" has a release date: May 24, 2019.
The sandbox adventure video game title has saw wide success across several platforms even including the iOS and Android smartphones. It is not a surprise that a Minecraft: The Movie is already in the works.
Video game movies in the past often bombed at the box office simply because they were rushed and forced in terms of the content and production times. With nearly three years more for production, the new video game movie could prove to be an exceptional video game film adaptation.
Minecraft: The Movie will be sharing the same date with another Warner Bros Pictures title with a LEGO theme titled "The Billion Brick Race," BSCKids has learned. It will be unsurprisingly available through 3D and IMAX cinemas across the globe.
There are no details given yet as to how the plot or story will go. It can be a whole new take on Minecraft's lore considering that there is really no linear story available in the main game.
Telltale's Minecraft does have their own take but it did not prove to be as successful as their other titles. There is no casting yet but it could already be underway behind the scenes.
Helming the Minecraft: The Movie is Director Rob McElhenney from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," TouchArcade reported. Jill Messick and Roy Lee will be producing the film throughout its development.
The recent video game movies have showed that the advancements in technology could give them justice. "Warcraft: The Beginning" is doing well anywhere but in the United States and "The Angry Birds" movie was surprisingly good despite its late entry considering that the game has been around for more than four years.
More details about the Minecraft: The Movie are expected to be unveiled in the following months. For now, the release date should give people assurance that it will be made hopefully without any delay in the production.
