The recent episode of SBS "Inkigayo" showcased impressive performances from big names in the South Korean music industry today. The show's broadcast last July 3 featured a win from SISTAR for their new single "I Like That".
SISTAR competed alongside other nominees - Girl's Generation's Taeyeon, who made her comeback with the song "Starlight", and EXO for their single "Monster". Taeyeon placed second while, EXO ranked third, South Korean entertainment website All K-Pop has learned.
A recent report by SOOMPI revealed that the South Korean girl group, known for their powerful vocals and sexy moves from members Hyolyn, Bora, Soyou and Dasom, had topped the music charts since the release of their new song. SISTAR had received a triple crown from Gaon Chart.
"SISTAR got first place on Gaon Chart [on] the fourth week of June with title track 'I Like That' through the digital chart, download chart, and social chart. This feat was [achieved] within four days [after] releasing their fourth mini-album 'Insane Love,'" said the group's agency Starship Entertainment in the abovementioned report.
In addition to the Gaon Chart, SISTAR's growing popularity had also made it to China's music video charts. With the release of their new single "I Like That", the group topped on QQ Music and Yin Yuen Tai.
Inkigayo's latest episode also featured a number of comeback performances. Brave Girls came back on stage with their song "High Heel", Melody Day performed "Color", Sonamoo introduced "I Like U Too Much", and ASTRO showcased their song called "Breathless".
In addition, Jellyfish Entertainment's new girl group Gugudan made their debut with their first single "Wonderland".
Aside from these performances, "Inkigayo" introduced their new MCs Kim Min Seok, Gong Seung Yeon and Jungyeon from the girl group TWICE.
Since it was their first time hosting the music program live, Seung Yeon was quoted saying that they will do their best in creating a "fresh Inkigayo" and requested understanding for any mistakes from the audience.
The first time MCs also performed on stage as part of their initiation. With help from TWICE, they showcased the group's song "Cheer Up" and Park Jin Young's "Who's Your Mama".
This week's episode also featured performances from EXID, U-KISS, CLC, KNK, DIA, MADTOWN, Romeo, Babylon, P.O, Tahiti and Heyne, according to SOOMPI.
