"Star Wars Episode VIII" has been filming since February and it is near completion. Actor Mark Hamill, who portrays Luke Skywalker in the film, revealed that the shooting will wrap up in another two weeks.

The actor took to Twitter to announce that the filming of the much-awaited film will be over by July 22. Earlier, Hamill had commented that his work with the movie will be done soon, putting him out of work, leading to rumors if Luke Skywalker will die in the upcoming film, BGR reported.

Hamill subsequently clarified that his comments were misunderstood, as he never meant to say that Skywalker would be killed off in "Star Wars Episode VIII." What he actually meant to say is that the production of the movie would end soon.

Very little is known about the plot of the movie at this stage. Nevertheless, a number of the cast have hinted that fans can expect something different in "Star Wars Episode VII" from the previous films in the franchise. Rumors suggest that the upcoming film will be mirroring Empire and is expected to have a darker storyline.

In April, Oscar Isaac, who portrays Poe Dameron, compared "Star Wars Episode VIII" to working on an independent film. He told LA Times that the film will show Rian visiting new places and investigating things which were never shown in the Star Wars universe earlier. The actor added that he was enjoying filming the movie, as his was getting to explore different things that he would not have expected in this universe.

Fans of the franchise will get their first taste of what they can from "Star Wars Episode VIII" during the Star Wars Celebration for Europe scheduled later this next month in London. The event will be attended by director Rian Johnson along with Chris Miller and Phil Lord, Game Spot reported.

Though "Star Wars Episode VIII" will wrap up filming soon, it will hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. Perhaps, the cast and crew will use up the intermediate period to re-film scenes, as they did with "Rogue One."
