It has been hinted by a reliable source that the much anticipated smartwatch will be launched in September, simultaneous to iPhone 7's release. The said device has been reported to be thinner by 40% compared to its predecessor.
Details for the Apple Watch 2 had been anticipated in Apple's recently concluded World Wide Developer's Conference. But to others' dismay, the event had not hinted any details for the upcoming watch. This left consumers a number of questions, as they have been anticipating the said device for several months now.
Apple Analyst Brian White recently revealed the next generation of Apple Watch may be coming in the next two to three months. White believes the Apple Watch 2 will be thinner by 20% to 40% when it is finally unveiled, Mac Rumors reported.
The report also speculated that if the upcoming smartwatch is released in September, Apple may have been increasing the wearable's cycle for more than a year to avoid consumer exhaustion. This is due to the fact the most consumers only acquired Apple watches during holiday shopping season, and releasing another one in spring may be too soon.
White's speculation was also strengthened by Quanta Chairman Barry Lam as the latter claimed that the Apple Watch 2 will be released in September. It can be recalled that Quanta manufactured the first Apple Watch back in 2015, and their company is expected to be the one manufacturing the pioneer device's next iteration. Aside from the thickness improvement, the upcoming wearable has also been reported to feature a new microLED screen or a thinner OLED screen which was first used in the first Apple Watch.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Apple already stepped up its procurement for the upcoming smartwatch as it received around two million units of order, which has been higher than expected, DigiTimes reported. Chips and components will start to ship by third quarter this year.
Despite all the speculations, none of this has been confirmed yet. It is expected that more details will be unveiled once a launch date is confirmed.
