"Half-Life 3" has a sleek chance of becoming available according to some speculations circulating online. The upcoming installment has been due for almost ten years since its last version became playable.
It was 2007 when the last "Half Life" game became available. During the waiting period, and up to this very moment, Valve has given very few details on the game's development and when the new installment may be launched again.
Although there had been rumors that one third of Valve's workforce is already working on the next iteration, other details linking to its further development are unavailable. Many are speculating that "Half Life 3" may be launched on its 20th anniversary in 2018, but this is just pure rumor since the developer has not confirmed other details.
Valve Hardware Engineer Alan Yates said in a subreddit post that he is fortunate he was able to work at Valve by the time the company began the AR/VR research team. He added the said team is smaller than what people know before, but has grown to reach around one third of the company. He also said members of this research team are key personnel who are able to solve the hardest technological problem, The News Independent reported.
Despite this information, some believe the game would not be coming back for good. One reason pointed out is the resignation of its main writer from the company. In an e-mail written to a fan, Marc Laidlaw said he had been a grateful co-creator but his involvement working with the series is already behind him.
Another reason is that Valve CEO Gabe Newell almost did not mention the game in a conference last March 2015. He only mentioned the title in passing while mentioning reasons for Valve's new commitment to multiplayer gaming which is a complete opposite of the "Half-Life" series, Rolling Stone reported.
While fans tried to file a petition on transparency in 2012, which became a 51,000-member group that garnered 4,500 comments. An acknowledgement was made by Newell by organizing thousands of people to play "Half-Life 2" on Steam. Newell admitted they are aware how much their fans have been waiting for the series' next installment, and went on by saying they focusing on currently popular games like "Counterstrike" and "Left 4 Dead."
As of this writing, none is still really confirmed. Only time will tell what will be the fate of the much-anticipated "Half-Life 3" in the months to come.
