The latest details for "Overwatch" will feature a new character Ana in the roster and Blizzard to implement "Hero Limits" in "Competitive Mode".
Blizzard Entertainment announced a new character joining "Overwatch's" post DLC plans as Pharah's mother Ana joins the fight as a support sniper. Ana in the game is one of the core members of "Overwatch" alongside Jack Morrison/Soldier:76, Gabriel Reyes/Reaper, Ana Amari, Torbjorn, Mercy, McCree and Reinhardt during the Omnic Crisis.
Ana would tell stories to Pharah about her adventures as an "Overwatch" member to which it inspired Pharah to one day join them to fight for there cause. However, Ana wanted a different life for her daughter as people she has killed to protect the innocent has placed a heavy burden to herself. The burden Ana has been carrying will soon get to her as she encountered Widowmaker during a mission. As Ana was about to take a shot, she hesitated and Widowmaker shot her right eye, seriously injuring her.
It was then that the world believed that Ana was killed in action, but was recovering at a hospital. Ana decided on a self-impose exile and left everyone behind except her daughter, and is willing to fight to protect her one last time, Gamerant reported.
In the "Overwatch" gameplay, Ana is support sniper with the ability to heal teammates and damage enemies “by firing at them with her rifle". Her move set includes the Biotic Rifle which fires darts that can restore allies health or deal ongoing damage to her enemies. In addition, Ana can use the rifle’s scope to zoom in on targets and make highly accurate shots.
"Sleep Dart" lets her fire darts from her sidearm, rendering opponents unconscious though any damage will rouse them.
"Biotic Grenade" will allos Ana to toss a biotic bomb that deals damage to enemies and heals allies in a small area of effect. Affected allies briefly receive increased healing from all sources, while enemies caught in the blast cannot be healed for a few moments.
Nano Boost is Ana's ultimate attack that allowes her to hit one of her allies with a combat boost that lets them move faster, deal more damage, and take less damage from enemy attacks.
One interesting thing in Ana's story trailer is that two unknown characters are present in the video, which fans speculated to be another playable character during the San Diego Comic Con event.
In other news, Blizzard revealed new details regarding the another feature in "Competitive Mode" in "Overwatch.
Game director Jeff Kaplan posted on the game's official forums that hero limits will be implemented in "Competitive Mode" as stacking up heroes have become an issue once the game mode became available leading gamers to have bad experiences during gameplay.
Blizzard also noticed that gamers use specific stacked compositions just to frustrate or irritate their opponents that causes indefinite delays in overtime among other strategies. While this kind of thing is certainly possible in any mode, the higher stakes of competitive play means these kinds of tactics were popping up more often than anyone would like.
Kaplan added that hero stacking became "less fun"and adding the one hero character per match rule set was a relatively simple change to make. Kaplan and his team are hoping to make these necessary changes in "Overwatch" soon.
Previous reports revealed that Blizzard will also look to eliminate the "sudden death" rules of "Competitive Mode" in season 2.
"Overwatch" is currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
