After being a member of a band, a featured artist and Eminem's "The Monster" co-writer, Bebe Rexha is starting a career as a solo artist. The singer of Albanian descent recently admitted that he was a fan of Beyonce's husband Jay Z.
In a recent interview with Noisey, Rexha said she was a dance girl and an urban-rhythmic girl and was never a pop punk girl. She said, "I listened to Jay Z and hung out in Harlem. My best friends were all, like, mixed Italian or Albanian, or Spanish or Puerto Rican."
Recently, Jay Z and Beyonce were declared the highest-paid celebrity couple in the 2016 list of the top-earning celebrities in the world by Forbes. Individually, the former ranked number 36 while the latter is at number 34.
Aside from co-writing "The Monster" with Eminem, Rexha also started her career as the lead vocalist of the band Black Cars, which was created by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. The former said she had to transition when she met the latter because she felt like she needed to fit in with his aesthetic.
It was basically an experimental project that didn't really pan out to what he saw in his head. And I became a chameleon to fit that.
According to Rexha, she wanted to be accepted and have Wentz think that she was cool at the time. This was why she wore a lot of black and "ended up becoming this emo kid," she revealed.
Rexha said she New York has shaped her as an artist. Like Jay Z, she was also born in Brooklyn, New York.
For Rexha, New York taught her how to grind and how to do things the right way. Among the things she learned from her hometown, she said, was to be respected and not lazily wait for somebody to come knocking on her door.
In contrast, people in Los Angeles hope to meet someone whose friend whose friend is a director and puts them in a movie, Rexha pointed out. Watch the music video of Eminem and Rihanna's collaboration song "The Monster" here:
