The webtoon titled "Lookism" is finally coming to the big screen. It sounds like "Reply 1988" co-stars Park Bo Gum, 23, and Ahn Jae Hong, 30, will assume the lead roles in the live-action film adaptation.
Recently, "Lookism" webtoon writer Park Tae Joon made a guest appearance on the July 20, Wednesday, broadcast of MBC's "Radio Star." As the writer discussed how his immensely popular webtoon was going to transform into a live-action movie, Park revealed that Ahn would be perfect as the main character.
"It would also be great if Park Bo Gum was the other main character," Soompi quoted Park as saying. "I think he would really fit the character. If Vasco and rapper Jay Park could also be cast, I would be thankful."
"Lookism" has been published serially since November 2014 on the South Korean portal site Naver. The on-going webtoon follows an overweight and unattractive high school student Park Hyung Suk, who got bullied by his schoolmates because of his looks.
One day, Park Hyung Suk's mother sends him to a better school after witnessing him being bullied because of his appearance. Unfortunately, he discover that the new school is just as cruel as the other.
Sudden twists and turns are set to happen when Park Hyung Suk awakens, only to find out that he is suddenly tall, fit and amazingly good-looking. He now has one personality and two bodies. Whenever one falls asleep, the other is awakened.
Meanwhile, Bo Gum, who made his acting debut in 2011's crime thriller film "Blind," is set to show up in the KBS 2TV's upcoming drama titled "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds." The 18-episode drama recounts the coming-of-age story of Lee Yeong aka Crown Prince Hyomyeong (Bo Gum) and the youthful romance between the latter and Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung) amid the 19th century of Joseon Dynasty.
"It's a coming-of-age story set in the Joseon period, for which no historical records remain," a representative from KBS said in a statement obtained by The Korea Herald. "We expect Park to successfully portray Hyomyung's growth from youth to a revered Joseon leader."
The upcoming drama is based on Yoon Yi Soo's 2013-2014 webtoon called "Gooreumi Geurin Dalbit." "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" will premiere on Aug. 15 at 09:00 AM (EST). Check out the trailer below:
