The new Korean dramas “Uncontrollably Fond” and “Doctors” were billed as the Hallyu to watch for possibilities of replicating the success of “Descendants of the Sun.”
During the first episode, aired on July 6, “Uncontrollably Fond” got 289.1 points on South Korea’s "Content Power Index" for the week July 4-10. With that showing, observers thought the drama, starring Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin, would be the potential heir apparent to the success of the “Descendants of the Sun.”
However, as early as the second episode of “Uncontrollably Fond,” decline in viewers was also noticed which continued through the fourth episode, reported Inquistr. By Episode 6, the show has deteriorated to single-digit viewership, and it is Bae Suzy’s acting they see as the culprit behind the low rating.
Among the feedback received about Suzy’s acting are: it is hopeless, she has uncontrollable acting and should concentrate on just pictorials. Another Hallyu fan found the plot moving at a boring pace and the lead star’s acting bad.
Inquisitr pointed out that the constant flow of criticism about Suzy’s acting will be a problem for “Uncontrollably Fond” especially since its competitors “Doctors” and “Two Worlds” have not only popular lead stars but also performers known for their excellent acting.
Although it noted that it is unfair to compare “Uncontrollably Fond” to “Two World” since the latter has started, it is not the case for "Doctors" which has high ratings, reported BitBag. When the medical drama premiered on June 20, it got viewer share of 12.9 percent, according to Nielsen Korea which steadily rose to 14.2 percent and the latest went up further to 18.4 percent.
