After he broke China’s box-office opening weekend with "Skiptrace" which earned $60 million on the first four days of exhibition, Chinese action star Jackie Chan makes another movie record.
This time, it would be the costliest Chinese movie filmed in Australia, "Bleediing Steel" which Chan is currently shooting in Sydney. But the producers declined to provide the costs to substantiate their claim, such as the production budget, the percentage to be spent in Australia and subsidies from the state and federal governments.
Chan arrived earlier this week in Australia to film the co-production between Village Roadshow Pictures Asia and Hey! Pictures. The location shooting is on Mountain Street where one scene features a black Audi zooming down the suburban road.
Australian actor Tess Haubrich co-stars with Chan in the science-fiction thriller, reported 9 News. Other than Haubrich, who starred in “Alien: Covenant,” other Australian cast includes Callan Mulvey from “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” According to Variety, a ceremony on Thursday at the iconic Sydney Opera House formally announced the official start of the movie’s production. New South Wales acting Premier Troy Grant and NSW Minister for Skills John Barilaro were involved in the ceremony.
Chan plays a special force agent who becomes a part of a huge conspiracy. While doing that, he protects a young woman, an important witness for a major case. Director and writer is Leo Zhang, while other Chinese cast includes Nana Ouyang (from “To the Fore”), Erica Xia-Hou who is a newcomer and Show Luo (“Mermaid”).
Besides Australia, part of the film, slated for showing in 2017, would be shot in Taiwan.
