Microsoft is officially rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for PCs with the Windows Mobile following behind on August 9 which could spell out that they are not really prioritizing their smartphones.
Users who are interested in receiving the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to get the new features can just wait for their computers to automatically download the needed data for the upgrade. It is still a standard Windows 10 update which means computers with legit copies will be able to download it instantly without having to go to a website or anything.
For those that do not want to wait, they can still manually download the Windows 10 Anniversary Update by going to their Settings page and under Windows Update with the version number being 1607. Users can check if the new update will be the Windows 10 Anniversary one through the Check for Updates button, PC World has learned.
If the computer is indeed up to date, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will appear to be the next to be downloaded if it is not already installed. Some users may not see the update install as it can do so in the background or when the computer shuts down.
The new update is not yet rolled out for the dying Windows Mobile smartphones. Microsoft will be rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for Windows Mobile on August 9, The Verge reported.
Windows Mobile smartphones that are eligible to receive the update will start to download the data files next week. The mobile division of Microsoft has not been doing well in the past few years falling behind Android and iOS with a single digit percentage in the global market share for smartphones.
One of the new features in the Windows Mobile Anniversary Update is a significantly improved Skype app which is now made more similar to the desktop version that everybody loves. Another new feature is the improved Settings app which now makes finding individual settings easier to find.
Users on their PCs can now download the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update from Microsoft. However, the Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update will be rolled out on August 9.
