On the onset of the PS4.5 Neo, PS4 owners, especially the recent ones, may be worried they will not be able to maximize the original console once the new generation arrives. But owners need not worry as Sony recently set guidelines for developers that future games set for PS4.5 Neo will still be playable by PS4.
Sony CEO Paul Reines recently confirmed in an interview that the upcoming PlayStation console will be arriving September this year. Before this, PS4 owners were already given guarantee before that by Sony Interactive President Andrew House when he told The Financial Times that the PS4.5 is "intended to sit alongside and compliment the standard PS4" and they will continue to sell both versions through the life cycle, PC Advisor reported.
The report added that PS4.5 will be offering upgrades such as a full 4K output in terms of resolution and improved graphics. It will also be compatible with the recent and upcoming PS4 games. However, it is expected the console will be costlier than its predecessor.
The difference in specifications between the original PS4 and the PS4.5 Neo is that the latter will run at 2.1 GHz. It terms of graphics it will have an improved AMD running at 36 CUs at 911 MHz. Its memory will also be improved as it will be able to process 218 GB/s compared to the former's 176 GB/s, Giant Bomb reported.
In addition to the assurance Sony has given when they announced both consoles will be sitting with each other, the company also released guidelines to developers. It is a long list which says in summary that they are not allowed to produce console exclusive games for both PS4 and PS4.5 Neo.
The entertainment has been specific with their rules saying their CPUs binary will be identical while three of its units will be sharing in one package. They also stated exclusive content to either systems. They have also given a condition that in case a Neo-specific bug occurred developers are not allowed to divert it to PS4 path and instead the game must be fixed.
