The South Korean suspense and zombie thriller movie "Train to Busan" that starred Gong Yoo has attracted the attention of several global movie makers.
The compelling and exciting storyline that was featured in the zombie movie "Train to Busan" has sparked a fierce competition among big production companies from the U.S. and other European countries. Movie making companies such as EuropaCorp, Canal Plus, Gaumont and more have all placed their bids in trying to secure the production rights to film a remake of the said film, Soompi reported.
French production companies have also joined the race to secure the film's production rights given the movie's plot. "Train to Busan" features the story of South Korean residents who suddenly found themselves trying to survive a zombie outbreak. The Korean actor Gong, best known for his portrayal in the hit drama "Coffee Prince," is one of the lead characters in the said movie. He plays a father trying to save himself and his daughter from zombies while onboard a train heading to Busan.
The zombie apocalyptic film has also attracted the interest of big Hollywood movie makers such as Sony Pictures and 20th Century Fox, as indicated in the same report. However, at this point, it is unclear who among the global production companies has managed to secure the filming rights to create a remake of the hit movie.
Meanwhile, the movie has recently reached an impressive milestone with around 10 million Korean moviegoers having watched the film since its debut, Korea Times reported. Latest data from the Korean Film Council has indicated that 9.81 million viewers have already seen the movie as of Sunday, Aug. 7. The said film is also expected to hit 10 million moviegoers in the week of Aug. 8.
The movie was even featured during the Cannes Film Festival held in France in May. The zombie motion picture was included in the said annual film festival's Out of Competition category, as stated in the same report. "Train to Busan" also had high ticket sales during its July 21 release day and has been considered one of South Korea's blockbuster movies of the year.
