Commissioner Shane McMahon and General Manager Daniel Bryan announced last week that WWE SmackDown Live will have its own Tag Team titles. According to the latest rumors, American Alpha are the favorites to become the first Tag Team Champions of SmackDown in the "New Era."
SmackDown will introduce the new Tag Team titles, as well as the new Women's championship, after SummerSlam, Daily Wrestling News reported. The WWE were rumored to be going back and forth on the official decision regarding new titles before making it final.
The company has been bringing back former WWE superstars to provide roster depth and it will lead to better storylines down the line. The WWE likely have to build up SmackDown's tag team division in the next several weeks.
The current roster of SmackDown only has five active tag teams. They are The Ascension, American Alpha, Breezango, The Hype Bros and The Vaudevillains. The Usos are currently inactive due to Jimmy Uso's spine injury while Luke Harper could reform a tag team with Erick Rowan once he gets cleared from his knee injury.
According to The Inquisitr, American Alpha should become the first-ever Tag Team champions of SmackDown Live. It is noted that the WWE is in the "New Era" and it would be smart to give Chad Gable and Jason Jordan the ball and see where they will take it.
However, these are just speculations at this point but all the rumors are pointing out to the "New Era" stars winning gold. Finn Balor is expected to become the first-ever WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam while Sasha Banks is already the WWE Women's Champion on Monday Night Raw.
Although Gable and Jordan had a short reign as NXT Tag Team Champions, it was due to them being ready for the main roster. American Alpha has the charisma and wrestling ability to be one of the greatest tag teams of all time.
Add the fact that Kurt Angle is rumored to be one of the former WWE superstars returning to the company and American Alpha will have the perfect manager. The WWE is concerned about Angle's health and addiction problems but a managerial role would prolong his career and retire with the company.
