"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 has just been renewed by FOX, and network president for entertainment David Madden admitted that it was a tough decision to make.
Madden also acknowledged the fact that some of the characters from the series will no longer return for season 4 and this makes things even more challenging for everyone.
Luckily, when the creative department of "Sleepy Hollow" pitched a new storyline to the network and said that they will be introducing a slew of new characters, FOX decided to give the series another chance.
More specifically, Madden said that the first seven scripts that they have read will be so much fun to watch.
"And the first seven scripts are really fun. We think there are a lot of good stories to tell," he told TV Line.
Meanwhile, FOX Television Group co-chairman/CEO Dana Walden also shared their plan on how to ensure that viewers of "Sleepy Hollow" will still be hooked to watch the show despite its major changes.
"The only thing you can do is show materials the show that will demonstrate to viewers that there's still something very special about the series," she said.
In other news, the finale for season 3 saw the shocking demise of lead character Abbie Mills. At that time, the creators and producers of the series decided to kill off the character in preparation for what lies ahead in season 4.
"We feel we have provided a wonderfully poignant conclusion for Abbie and showed some of the best moments between the Witnesses that we've seen on screen," the official statement from the network read.
Showrunner Clifton Campbell also said that even though Abbie is already dead, she can make an appearance in the series in season 4 in whatever way or form.
"It's always surprising to see how the reflections of one character or another can influence the show moving forward," he said.
Following Abbie's death, Walden said that they had to think long and hard whether or not killing the lead character was the right thing to do.
"Sleepy Hollow" season 4 will premiere on FOX sometime in 2017.
