A recent message posted on the United States Food and Drug Administration website stated that the food manufacturer WhiteWave Foods has voluntarily recalled some of its products due to a mishap in terms of the products packaging.
The product that was recalled was the Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers; according to the FDA the boxes may contain the wrong product. WhiteWave Foods added that the boxes contain peanut butter sandwich crackers.
People who have allergy on peanuts have faces the most serious risk once they have eaten the cracker which was wrongly labeled as cheddar crackers.
According to FDA's announcement, "WhiteWave Foods is voluntarily recalling 7.5 oz packages of Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers because they may contain undeclared peanuts. Peaople who have allergy or sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threating allergic reaction if they consume this product."
The message also added that no illnesses or incident has been reported. More than 60,000 of the mislabeled boxes have already been shipped to various retailers and wholesalers in 32 different states.
The FDA report that affected boxes are those that has an expiration or "best before" date of May 17 2015 and a Universal Product Code of 42365 00464.
For those consumers who purchased the affected products, they are advised to return the product to the store and they will be properly refunded or they can have the product exchanged.
The FDA is already working hand-in-hand with the Food Allergy Research and Education organization in order to properly handle the situation and respond to any incident that might have been instigated by the problem.
