"Shadowhunters" has been renewed for a sophomore season, and they've revealed a few details on the show's newest additions and plot twists. Here's everything you need to know about "Shadowhunters" Season 2.
Nick Sagar joins cast
"The Have and the Have Nots" star Nick Sagar has been cast for a recurring role in "Shadowhunters" Season 2, Deadline reported. He is expected to play Victor Aldertree, a Clave Representative who's been tasked to investigate Jace's correspondence with her father and the show's main villain Valentine.
The casting news follows Freeform's announcement that Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer have been enlisted as the show's newest showrunners, replacing Ed Decter.
Seelie Queen makes her debut
The Seelie Queen is one of the most interesting characters in the books and has a rather solid fanbase among readers of the Cassandra Clare novels. She's a master manipulator, and in several instances in the books meddled with Jace and Clary's feelings for each other.
In an interview with TV Line prior to his departure from the series, Decter hinted that the Seelie Queen's introduction is the start of "building into each of the realms in a different way."
Jace is on a dark path
Actor Dominic Sherwood, who plays Jace on the show, revealed that his character "gets worse before he gets better." In the Season 1 finale, Jace dsided with his father Valentine. Now, he feels like an outcast among shadowhunters, and doesn't quite feel like he fits in with the downworlders.
"Jace has been so sure of himself this whole time and known exactly who he is, but now that he's learned that Valentine is his father, it's kind of changed everything for him," Katherine McNamara, who plays Clary, said about Jace's situation.
Season 1 characters return.
"Simon's girlfriend Maureen has a lot in store for her, and there's a lot in store for Jocelyn and Luke," Decter revealed about the fate of the show's characters in "Shadowhunters" Season 2.
There's also going to be more romance between Magnus and Alec, especially after that "Malec" kiss in "Shadowhunters" Season 1 that drew massive attention among viewers.
"Shadowhunters" Season 2 air date
Although nothing has been confirmed, it is expected that "Shadowhunters" Season 2 will premiere early in 2017.
