A recently discovered problem regarding the control of its power sunroof has forced General Motors to recall more than 67,000 units of its Cadillac ATS sports sedan. Reports shows that the cars sunroof controls are overly sensitive.
Affected models were the ones that were manufactured from 2013 up until 2015. GM said in a statement that the cars sunroof automatically opens or closes even if the controls were just partly touched. The recall was enforced due to various reports claiming that the switches can be activated by exerting less force that are allowed under the federal safety standards, according to Detroit News.
Under close investigation, GM found the problem after testing a 2016 model which uses the same switches installed in the 2013-2015 models. According to the company, no accident or injury has been reported due to the issue.
GM has already notified its dealers to stop selling the affected cars until the whole issue is resolved. On a worldwide scale, more than 12,200 unsold units will be affected by the recall. Additionally, 10,500 unsold units will be affected within the United States.
Owners of the affected models were advised to bring their cars into the nearest GM factory or dealers in order to fix the problem, according to LA Times.
According to GM, dealers will only replace the switch trim plate in order to fix the issue. Majority of the affected cars were sold mainly in the US and Canada.
This current issue is the fifth one to emerge after the ATS was first produced in 2012. Previous problems that opted GM to recall the car includes faulty seatbelt locks, broken shifter cables and brake light issues among others.
