The ongoing divorce settlement between Johnny Depp-Amber Heard has taken an ugly turn. Heard is not happy with the fact that her ex-husband has decided to donate $7 million dollar towards two of her favorite charity organizations, instead of her.
While their divorce has been going through ups and downs for sometime, it was finally settled earlier this month that the "Finding Neverland" star would pay a lump sum as part of the divorce settlement.
However, Depp's representative shocked the media by announcing that the amount would be paid as donations towards Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and also the American Civil Liberties Union instead of reimbursing the middle man, which purportedly refers to Heard.
The 30-year-old actress is not happy with Depp's decision and blamed him for manipulating with terms and conditions of the divorce settlement. "If Johnny wishes to change the settlement agreement, we must insist that he honor the full amount by donating $14m to charity, which after accounting for his tax deduction, is equal to his $7m payment obligation to Amber," according to Heard, reported TMZ.
Amber's team went a step further by accusing Johnny for his sudden change of mind and insisted that the amount should be paid in a lump sum and not in installments. They said in their claim, "Anything less would be a transparent attempt by Johnny's counsel, Laura Wasser and Patti Glaser, to reduce their client's true payment by half under the guise of new-found concern for charities that he has never previously supported.
They accused the 53-year-old actor that he wanted to donate the money to the charity to get a tax write-off. Johnny's team reacted promptly and said in the actor's defense that the actor was overwhelmed by the honor that was given to him by the Children's Hospitals of Los Angeles back in 2006 and so he decided to make this donation.
Amber, however, could not agree with the fact that Depp could make the donations out of intentions that he wants to mean. Rather, he tried to manipulate the terms of divorce settlement, which was not considerate. Nonetheless, she praised Depp's novel interest of helping and supporting the charities, Los Angeles Timesreported.
Heard has been associated with the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles for the past 10 years that works towards helping sick children. The American Civil Liberties Union is another charity organization that fights violence against women.
