SBS aired the final episode of "Doctors" starring Kim Rae Won and Park Shin Hye on Aug. 20 with a national viewership rating of 22.0 percent. Recently, the 35-year-old actor has opened up about the on-screen chemistry he shares with his co-star.
"We cannot but have good chemistry because she really cares about an actor who plays the opposite role," Yonhap News Agency quoted Kim as saying during a news conference for "Doctors" at the SBS headquarters in Mokdong, southwestern Seoul. "There are actors who care only about their roles."
While much can be said in regards to the success of the 20-episode drama, it is also a known fact that part of that success is ascribed to the natural chemistry Kim and Park shared on screen. The "Gangnam Blues" actor then admitted that he never felt uncomfortable in acting out romance with the "Pinocchio" actress, who is nine years younger than him.
"Everything went naturally without having to discuss much about how to act," Kim added. "Acting cannot be done alone. In that sense, I think Park Shin-Hye is really clever."
Helmed by program director Oh Choong-Hwan, "Doctors" depicts a coming-of-age story of Yoo Hye-Jung (Park) from a hopeless delinquent high school student to a compassionate doctor. The 20-episode drama, which aired from June 20 to Aug. 23, was the highest among all Korean dramas shown during the Monday-Tuesday timeslot.
As a result of his dynamic portrayal of a renowned specialist, Hong Ji-Hong, who has an affable personality, Kim experienced a tremendous growth in his popularity both locally and internationally. He said he is now happier than ever with the massive arrival of TV commercial offers.
Meanwhile, Kim will star next as Seo Jin-Hong in "RV: Resurrected Victims," an upcoming mystery thriller film to be directed by Kwak Kyung-Taek, Han Cinema has learned. The film, which also stars Kim Hae-Sook, Sung Dong-Il, Jeon Hye-Jin and Jang Young-Nam, is based on Park Ha-Ik's 2012 novel of the same name.
