"Don't Breathe" is on its way to a $26.1 million after a fantastic first two days of its weekend opening. The frightening film proves to be reliable with an impressive box office showing. It earned $10 million on Aug. 26, Friday, and is eyeing a $22 million opening weekend.

The box office haul Sony and Screen Gem's film is more than twice what it costs, according to Deadline. The film was produced for less than $10 million and was funded by Stage 6 Films of Sony Pictures.

The horror thriller was expected to sweep the box office this weekend while showing across 3,051 big screens, according to Variety. With a price tag of less than $10 million, the strong opening for "Don't Breathe" can be considered a success.

A buzz has been created for "Don't Breathe" with screenings at Comic Con and SXSW, while enjoying an 87 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The picture received positive reviews as well, consistently being impressive in recent months in an era where sequels like "The Purge: Election Year" and "The Conjuring 2" nearly matched or surpassed the previous movies of their respective franchises.

The horror-thriller is about three robbers in Detroit who planned to steal money from a man who they think is helpless and blind. Directed by Fede Alvarez, the movie stars Daniel Zovatto, Stephen Lang, Dylan Minnette and Jane Levy.

Meanwhile, "Suicide Squad" is anticipated to land second with about $11 million at 3,582 locations. Already on its fourth frame, it has raked in more than $500 million worldwide. The supervillain mashup released on Aug. 5 has vexed critics but made it to the box-office.

The comic book adaptation is now closer to $300 million locally. Its stateside total stands at $264.6 million. Tailing "Suicide Squad" is Sony's "Sausage Party" that is on its third weekend, and will consume a bit over $7 million this weekend.

Another film to watch is the follow-up of the 2011 "The Mechanic," "Mechanic: Resurrection" released on Aug. 26, Friday. The story is about the world's best assassin Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) who reluctantly returns to being a contract killer.

The original film earned $62 million on a $40 million budget, an enough success on home entertainment to demand for a sequel. It is anticipated to pull in between $6 to $8 million, while showing across 2,258 locations.
