Park Bo Gum revealed that "Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong-Ki helped him prepare for his role in the new KBS 2TV drama "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds." The 18-episode coming-of-age drama premiered in South Korea on Aug. 22.
During a recording session for "Showbiz Korea," Park discussed how "The Innocent Man" actor helped calm his nerves before filming the drama. "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" marks Park first historical drama.
"Song Joong-Ki always encourages me when I am feeling lost," All Kpop quoted Park as saying during the recording session. "Cha Tae Hyun made a special appearance in the drama. Lim Joo Hwan, who's been in a lot of historical dramas, taught me in detail the proper ways to dress in traditional garbs."
The "Reply 1988" actor then discussed the types of characters and the genres he wants to try in the future. Park revealed he wants to work on a project where he can express the warm and reviving innocence of love.
"I want to do a movie where I get to wear a school uniform," Park added. "Just like 'Our Times' or "You Are The Apple Of My Eye'."
In "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds," Park plays the eldest son of King Sunjo and heir to the throne, Crown Prince Lee Yeong, who is a genius in literature and arts. He is shrewd and splendid but disdained by his servants for being capricious.
The drama will revolve around Lee Yeong's transformation and growth from a boy to a respected ruler. He falls in love with a street-savvy woman, Hong Ra-On (Kim Yoo Jung), who disguises herself as a eunuch offering counseling in the royal courts.
The 18-episode drama is a TV adaptation of a popular web novel based on the life of Crown Prince Hyomyeong. The crown prince, who ruled the Joseon Dynasty from 1827-1830 after King Sunjo's health deteriorated, is known to have pursued different political reforms before dying at the young age of 20.
During a promotional press conference held at Times Square in western Seoul, director Kim Sung-Yoon said "Moonlight Drawn by Clouds" intended to show a more contemporary message than unveiling a political one, Yonhap News Agency reported. He added, "Our focus was on creating a romance that's pretty and charming but also sad. There's no grand metaphor."
