“Felix Manalo” actor Dennis Trillo won the Asian Star Prize in the Seoul International Drama Awards 2016 on Sept. 8, Thursday, at KBS Hall in Seoul, South Korea. During the event, the Filipino actor took the chance to take a selfie with “Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong Ki.
Trillo was given the Asian Star Prize for his performance in “My Faithful Husband,” which aired in the Philippines on GMA in 2015. The same award was given to Hong Kong’s Anthony Wong and Taiwan’s Jasper Liu.
In 2017, Trillo may attend the Academy Awards if the Film Academy of the Philippines chooses “Felix Manalo” as the Philippine entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category. Also in the short list are Brillante Mendoza’s “Ma’ Rosa,” Jun Lana’s “Shadow Behind the Moon,” Erik Matti’s “Honor Thy Father,” Lav Diaz’s “A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery,” Roderick Cabrido’s “The Pact,” Gil Portes’s “The Agony and Fury of Hermano Puli” and Eduardo Roy Jr.’s “Pamilya Ordinaryo.”
During the Seoul International Drama Awards 2016, the Most Popular Foreign Drama of the Year award was given to “Dramaworld” from the United States. Set in Los Angeles and Seoul, the comedy-drama series stars Liv Hewson, Sean Dulake, Justin Chon, Bae Noo-ri and Kim Sa-hee.
Another winner from the U.S. is “Mr. Robot,” the recipient of the Mini-Series Silver Bird Prize. In August, it was confirmed that “Mr. Robot” Season 3 will air in 2017, Deadline reported.
Song was also one of the big winners during the awards ceremony. He bagged the Outstanding Korean Actor award for his performance in “Descendants of the Sun.”
Song’s “Descendants of the Sun” co-star Song Hye Kyo did not win the Outstanding Korean Actress award, which was given to “Oh My Venus” actress Shin Min Ah. Also, “Descendants of the Sun” won the Excellent Korean Drama award while “The Flower in Prison” was declared the Best Korean Drama.
