South Korean actor Lee Jong-Suk considered the MBC drama "W" as a turning point in his acting career. In the 16-episode fantasy drama, the 27-year-old actor portrayed Kang Chul, the anecdotal lead character of popular comic series W.
On Sept. 17, Saturday, several shots from Lee's pictorial with fashion magazine InStyle Korea were released to various local news outlets. In an accompanying sit-down interview, Lee discussed what the MBC drama actually means to him.
"The thirst I had to act while resting for a year after 'Pinocchio' was fully quenched when I started this project," Lee told InStyle Korea, as cited by Soompi. "Personally, through 'W' I grew to worry less about my way of acting, and I saw the image of myself that I wanted to see."
The "Pinocchio" actor added that the 16-episode drama was a defining moment in his acting career, as he discovered another side of himself. It can be recalled that Lee took on the role since he wanted to portray a new and distinctive character to show off his acting skills.
Lee debuted as an actor in the 2005 short film, "Sympathy." He is best known for his leading roles in 2012's "School 2013", 2013's "I Can Hear Your Voice", 2014's "Doctor Stranger" and "Pinocchio."
Lee will star next in "VIP," an upcoming espionage crime-thriller film to be directed by Park Hoon-Jung. He will play the son of a high-ranking North Korean official, Gwang Il, who is suspected of committing serial murders around the world, Korea Joongang Daily reported. It marks his first role as a villain.
Lee will be joined by veteran actors Kim Myung Min, Park Hee Soon and Jang Dong Gun. More details about the project will be revealed soon.
In other news, Lee successfully held the first leg of his "2016 Lee Jong Suk Fan Meeting Variety" on Sept. 10 at the Olympic Hall, Olympic Park, Seoul, South Korea. He kicked off the meet-and-greet event by performing Zion. T's popular ballad, "Eat." Photos from the event were widely circulated on Twitter.
