Genoa started the season with a bang, winning two straight games with the same 3-1 score, beating newly-promoted squads Cagliari and Crotone in their first and second weeks respectively.
However, their week 3 match did not turn out as planned as the team was blanked by Sassuolo Calcio, 0-2, at the Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore last Sunday to succumb to their first loss this season, as per ESPN.
The hosts netted the first two goals of the contest, courtesy of forwards Matteo Politano and Gregoire Defrel, at the 58th and 66th minutes after a goalless first half of play.
Head coach Ivan Jurić's squad was not able to pierce the net of I Neroverdi goalkeeper Andrea Consigli in the whole match, which was their first shutout game this term. The red card of midfielder Miguel Veloso at the 86th minute did not help at all in finding a consolation goal for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Napoli continued to be undefeated this season as they won their third straight game, beating lowly club Bologna, 3-1, at the Stadio San Paolo last Saturday, after drawing their season-opener with newly-promoted side Pescara, SB Nation reported.
Winger Jose Callejon scored the opening goal of the match at the 14th minute to give head coach Maurizio Sarri's side the early lead.
The one-point advantage reached until the halftime break, but Bologna found the equalizer 11 minutes after the restart with a right-footed shot from forward Simone Verdi.
Gli Azzurri then scored the last two goals in the game, courtesy of a brace from substitute striker Arkadiusz Milik, who replaced Manolo Gabbiadini at the 61st minute, scoring twice at the 67th and 78th.
Napoli is favored to prevail in the match and extend their winning streak to four games.
