Swike, a Tumblr user, posted an image of a dress and asked, "Is this dress gold and white or black and blue?" on Thursday. Buzzfeed shared it and the entire online community exploded on which answer to go with.
The image has received a lot of attention with a few celebrities reacting to it.
Taylor Swift, through MTV, seemed confident in saying that it is blue and black.
"I don't understand this odd dress debate and I feel like it's a trick somehow. I'm confused and scared. PS it's OBVIOUSLY BLUE AND BLACK," the "Shake It Off" singer said.
Ellen DeGeneres, on the other hand, expressed her understanding of the importance of the dress to history.
"From this day on, the world will be divided into two people. Blue & black, or white & gold," the popular writer, producer, and television host tweeted.
Andrew Peng, the journalist, spent some time understanding on how the dress would look on different lighting shades.
"Why on earth did I ever spend so much of my time on this issue?" he said on Twitter.
#TEAMWHITEANDGOLD include celebrities like Anna Kendrick, Sarah Hyland, Kim Kardashian West, BJ Novak, and Busy Philipps while #TEAMBLACKANDBLUE include Demi Lovato, Jaden Smith, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Justin Beiber, Frankie Muniz, Miley Cyrus, Mindy Kaling, and Lady Gaga.
With so much information on social media, Buzzfeed post-production supervisor Ben concludes that those individuals who see the dress' colors as black and blue are interpreting the image as its face value while those who see it as white and gold are compensating it to the image's aesthetic and lighting.
