Many fans were shocked when they learned of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's confirmed separation. However, it appears that the actor only learned of Jolie's divorce filing a day before the news broke out.
Reports of the former Hollywood couple's confirmed separation were first released on Sept. 20, Tuesday. A source told Us Weekly that Pitt only found out about Jolie's divorce decision on Sept. 19, Monday.
The source did not share other details about the former couple's divorce. Although the source revealed the family's initial plans to travel to London on Sept. 23, Friday. However, the said London trip has already been cancelled following the divorce news, the source stated.
Jolie filed for divorce on Sept. 19, Monday, where she cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the separation. In the actress' divorce documents, the "Maleficent" star asked physical custody of their children. She also indicated that Pitt should receive joint legal custody of their twins Vivienne and Knox, daughter Shiloh and adoptive children Zahara, Pax and Maddox.
In a statement issued to the same publication, the actress stated that she made the decision to file for divorce for the sake of her family. Jolie's statement read, "This decision was made for the health of the family."
The "World War Z" star has also issued his own statement to People on Sept. 20, Tuesday. Similar to his estranged wife's comment, Pitt mentioned of their six children's well-being, conveyed his sadness about the end of his marriage and ten-year relationship with Jolie and requested the press to give his family and children the privacy they deserve at this time.
Meanwhile, a source also told the publication that the former Hollywood couple's separation came as a "complete shock." Another source also shared that both Jolie and Pitt feel saddened at how their two-year marriage ended.
The two celebrities met while filming the movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" where they portrayed a married couple who each worked as a secret agent for rival agencies. Pitt and Jolie made their relationship public in the same year, several months after the actor and his then wife Jennifer Aniston announced their divorce in January 2005. However, it was only in August 2014 that Pitt and Jolie tied the knot in a private wedding held in France.
