Nielsen Korea just released the viewership ratings ranking on Sept. 26, Monday. The premiere of tvN's new political drama "The K2" dominated the weekend viewership ratings with an impressive 3.8 percent.
Although the figures were lower than the weekday viewership ratings, "The K2" managed to score the highest percentile amid its timeslot. Furthermore, the political drama ranked the most viewed program among women between ages 10 and 50, The Kpop Herald reported.
The tvN drama has been gathering attention for its A-list cast, which includes Girls' Generation's Yoona and Ji Chang Wook. In the drama, the two portray Go Anna and Kim Je Ha, respectively.
In a sit-down interview with local news outlet TV Report, as cited by Soompi, program director (PD) Kwak Jung Hwan expressed his gratitude to all fans for their interest in the show. He then revealed how the show's two leads are working very hard for the drama.
"Ji Chang Wook and YoonA are actors that will become even better in the future," PD Kwak added. "Both of them are putting their all into giving a passionate performance. I think they'll both receive a lot of praise for their acting in this show."
PD Kwak continues ahead to say that he was surprised that "The K2" are not just compared to other Korean dramas, but was even compared to the "Bond" films. Although there are always some regrets, PD Kwak stressed that they will continue to do their best.
"The K2" follows a former mercenary soldier, Kim Je Ha, who gets betrayed by his own country. He gets entangled in a political family that is full of secrets after he got hired as a bodyguard by Choi Yoo Jin (Song Yoon-A), the wife of a presidential candidate.
At the press conference for "The K2" on Sept. 20, Ji expressed that the political series would be his last action drama. Speaking before a group of local reporters, the "Healer" actor revealed that "The K2" was the hardest drama among all the projects he has done so far.
It was so difficult it made Ji resolve to never do another action drama in the future. He also revealed how he worked out so much for the role, stating he practiced a lot of martial arts at an action school for almost two months.
