WWE Clash of Champions portrayed Seth Rollins as the confident character he is. He brought back his entire high-flying offense, taking on multiple heels and yielding surprising success. To top it all off, he went against Stephanie McMahon, a potent individual in WWE.
Clash of Champions guaranteed only one title change, but the big scoop remained the match between Universal Champion Kevin Owens and Rollins. As expected, their fight climaxed towards the end.
By the time the match began, many anticipated that Owens would win by any means necessary. The most likely appearance - that of Triple H - ended technically happening, and the match followed the course of the typical "referee-by-knockout."
When Rollins unintentionally collided with the referee, the outcome was meant to be a wicked one. According to Mirror, Chris Jericho, who was around to distract and help his "friend" Owens, did not succeed in fooling Rollins, although his plan was predestined to work in some way.
Instead of Triple H showing up as presumed, Stephanie McMahon came out to bring another referee at a very unusual time. By the time Rollins got back to the ring, Owens was ready to make his move. It was through a well-calculated plan that he retained his title.
Over time, the story of Rollins has been slowly unfolding as a heel in WWE. He has always made up for lack of confidence in himself, distancing himself from Ambrose, Reigns, and The Shield to give himself the edge that he thought he needed.
He needed to believe that he was one of the biggest reasons for the group's success. He also wanted to prove somehow that he was capable of doing everything on his own.
Rollins spent his summer nursing a horrible knee injury while getting at ease with the idea that Ambrose was already an independent wrestler who did not need his guidance. He even regularly admits how dangerous his former friend Reigns is, according to SB Nation.
Seemingly, the unfolding of events coupled with his loss of authority over Owens has humbled him. He now has the confidence he needs to go back to the side of his friends. Just a week ago, he saved Reigns from a two-on-one beatdown and stood up against McMahon, one of the influential people he should fear.
It is clear that Rollins is getting back to his true form, one that portrays him as a confident and powerful wrestler. Watch him receive a standing ovation from the WWE Universe in the clip below:
